I don’t read a lot of science fiction, but this is one of the best infographics I have seen. Part of ten year project to promote interdisciplinary inquiry and development of creative maps, “The History of Science Fiction” is one of the best (so far). The Places and Spaces Project runs until 2014 and this year’s theme is the digital library, how fitting!

Under the Jaguar Sun by Italo Calvino
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The three short stories contained in this collection showcase Calvino’s incredible narrative skill. Without hesitation, we dive full on into a world of characters intensely affected and consumed by one of their senses. In the first story Under the Jaguar Sun, we follow a couple’s journey through the taste-scape of a modern day Mexico: this story, a true delight for any foodie or new lover alike. The second story, A King Listens, strays a bit from Calvino’s customary magically realist tales, but remains focused toward defining and defending a kingdom of sounds. The third, and final story in the short collection, is more akin to Calvino’s multiple perspective and most popular novel, If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler; get ready for shifting points of view and a whirlwind, perspectival climax and conclusion.
